Dr. Obuks Ejohwomu

Dr. Obuks Ejohwomu is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Sustainable Built Environment and Project Management at The University of Manchester, United Kingdom. His work advances sustainable and resilient communities through environmental health, air quality research, digital innovation, and socio-technical systems thinking.

He is the Founder and Executive Director of the SQUARE Consortium, a global initiative deploying low-cost environmental monitoring technologies across the UK, Africa, and Australia to address air pollution, climate resilience, and health inequalities. His research integrates environmental science, AI-enabled digital innovation, and socially responsible infrastructure delivery to support healthier and more sustainable communities.

Dr. Ejohwomu has secured more than £2 million in research and innovation funding and has led multidisciplinary projects with direct policy, industry, and societal impact. He also contributed to the development of the award-winning Bubble PAPR respirator through an EPSRC/NHS Foundation Trust collaboration supporting frontline healthcare workers during COVID-19.

He serves as an Editorial Advisory Board Member for Building and Environment and Associate Editor for the Journal of Engineering, Design and Technology, contributing actively to international research, policy, and professional networks.

A University of Melbourne FEIT Visiting Fellow, Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he has published over 100 peer-reviewed outputs and continues to advise governments, industry, and international partners on environmental health, climate-aligned infrastructure, and sustainable development. His contributions to research, innovation, and societal impact have received international recognition, including consecutive RISE awards and nomination for a British diversity and leadership award.
