Prof Wasiu Afolabi

Wasiu Akinloye Afolabi is a Professor of Community Nutrition in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. He is an Alumnus of the University of Ibadan where he obtained his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. He has over 80 publications including journal articles, conference proceedings and technical reports. He has over 35 years’ experience in development and academic research, programme implementation and management.

He is a former Head of Department, Nutrition and Dietetics, Deputy Dean and Dean, College of Food Science and Human Ecology, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Ogun State, Nigeria. He was the Senior Programme Officer for Nutrition (2005 – 2009) on the USAID/COMPASS project, Nigeria, Country Programme Coordinator for Infant and Young Child Nutrition Project (2009 -2010).

He has served as a consultant to many organizations including the World Bank, UNICEF, BASICS II, Helen Keller International (HKI), Programme for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH), Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), Iodine Global Network and the Food Basket Foundation International.

Prof Afolabi has also coordinated and participated in many training programmes, workshops and the development of many national policy documents and guidelines on nutrition in Nigeria. He is a Fellow and former President, of the Nutrition Society of Nigeria.
